Cleaning Products

As many of you will know that I lived in Aberdeen, United Kingdom for just over 2 years and it’s where my partner and I went vegan! For my UK friends if you’re looking for cruelty free and vegan friendly household cleaning products then I would highly recommend the co-operative’s own brand cleaning products and the brand Astonish! All of the Co-op’s cleaning products are cruelty free and their products are clearly labelled “contains no animal ingredients” on the front. They have quite a big selection such as liquid hand-soaps, window cleaner, multipurpose spray, cleaning wipes washing up liquid, toilet bleach and laundry detergent. They are also really reasonably priced costing under a quid! Astonish is another cruelty free and vegan friendly brand which is available from Savers, Home Bargains and Poundshops! They have liquid hand-soaps, washing up liquid, cleaning sprays such as window cleaner, kitchen cleaner, bathroom cleaner, window cleaner, 4 in 1 cleaner and laundry detergent all for around a quid each! Another CF and vegan friendly brand that I tried was the Faith and Nature laundry detergent! It smelt really lovely and made my clothes clean and fresh but I felt it was a bit on the pricey side so I went with Astonish/Co-op after that and my clothes always smelled lovely after washing them particularly the Astonish non bio wash (purple bottle)!

Since moving to Perth, Western Australia we have mainly been using Ecostore washing up liquid, Earth Choice floor cleaner, laundry detergent, stain remover, laundry softener, kitchen spray, bathroom spray and window and glass spray! They all smell really fresh and natural and are sourced from nature so there’s no nasty or harsh chemicals! These products are available from health food stores, Coles, Woolworths and Farmer Jacks and they can sometimes be found in Red Dot!

Toiletries

If you’re from the UK then I would recommend either Superdrug’s own brand/Co-op’s own brand or Astonish’s liquid hand soaps! If you’re based in Australia we currently use either Organic Care/Original Source or Bathox liquid hand-soap which are clearly labelled as cruelty free and vegan! These brands are commonly found in Coles, Woolworths, Farmer Jacks and IGA! We have only just recently discovered the brand Bathox (strawberry and apple!!) in Farmer Jacks! Original Source can also be found in the UK so check out your nearest Sainsburys, ASDA or even Superdrug! Original source also sells a wide range of amazing shower gels too! Nature’s Organics Fruits shower gel are also CF and vegan friendly and can be found in Woolies and Nature’s Organics Spa shower gel available from Farmer Jacks!

While we were living in Aberdeen we mainly used Superdrug’s own brand Extracts Shampoo and Conditioner in Coconut and Sweet Almond! It smells amazing and always left my hair feeling really soft and shiny and got rid of most of my knots! I also really liked Aveda’s colour conserve shampoo and conditioner which you can get from James Dunn’s House hair salon or Debenhams and as far as I know it’s only available in store over east but you can always order it online! I absolutely love Aveda’s damage repair serum, I apply it to the ends of my towel dried hair before I blow-dry my hair or sometimes I apply it to dry hair if I’m straightening my hair! It’s so good for getting rid of knots and leaving your hair lovely and soft! It also offers heat protection and protects your hair from sun damage! Aveda’s products are quite pricey however I have had my damage repair serum since before Christmas and I still have loads left so it’s definitely worth investing in since you only need a small amount!

My partner also really enjoyed the Faith in Nature Lavender and Geranium shampoo although I didn’t get on well with their conditioner for coloured hair! My hair still felt knotty and I didn’t think it was worth the price! Faith in Nature can be purchased from Superdrug, Holland and Barrets, TK Maxx, some other health food stores and online! Pro-voke is also another amazing shampoo is you have blonde highlights/bleached hair! It’s a purple shampoo that keeps your highlights nice and bright and stops your hair from going brassy! I used to leave it in my hair for around 5 minutes once a week before washing it out and applying my conditioner and I found it amazing for keeping my highlights looking vibrant! Pro-voke can be found in Superdrug and most large supermarkets such as ASDA and Sainsbury’s! I’m also pretty sure I’ve seen it in Priceline (Australia) before!

I’m currently finding Organic Care’s shampoo and conditioner for coloured hair really good and it’s really affordable and easily found in Coles, Woolworths and Farmer Jacks! I also really love La Bang’s shampoo and conditioner! They are an online store and their products smell amazing and are such good quality! I’m absolutely in love with their body oils, they apply so easily and are fast absorbing leaving my skin so smooth! They really help improve the appearance of stretch marks and they smell AMAZING! I always get compliments on my scent when I use their oils and my room always smell’s soo good! A body oil usually lasts me about a week (I apply it after I shower) it is a bit on the pricey side but so worth it! Sukin’s body conditioner is also really good for helping to moisturise your skin and helps with stretch marks and is more affordable if you’re on a budget! As for my UK friends I used to love Superdrug’s own body lotions and body butters they are regularly on offer and come in amazing scents such as mango, shea butter and coconut!

If you are looking for more luxurious shower gels, soaps, bath bombs etc then I would highly recommend Lush! Lush is cruelty free and around 90% of their products are vegan friendly! They clearly label their products with either the vegetarian society logo or the vegan logo (sunflower) so just double check that what you’re buying is vegan! The main non vegan ingredients that they use is honey and beeswax! What I love about Lush is the fact that they are so environmentally friendly too! They sell tins for their shampoo bars, soap bars etc to avoid using plastic! If you use 5 of their pots you can bring them back and they will recycle them for you and they will also give you a free face mask! It encourages you to recycle the pots while also rewarding you at the same time so it’s a win win! Lush also sell lip balms, cosmetics, henna hair colour, mouthwash tablets, cleansers, face and body moisturisers, body conditioners, bath oils, bath bombs and so much more! When I’m feeling stressed and need to relax I love nothing more than to have a nice hot bath with my favourite lush bath bomb and shower gel and then I apply either my la bang body oil or a lush moisturiser!

Their 9-5 cleanser is also amazing for taking off makeup especially when you are tired or on the go! Apply a squirt of the cleanser to a cotton pad and it it will wipe away your makeup including your mascara! It’s also really handy for mornings when you’re in a rush and don’t have time to properly wash your face! If you have sensitive/acne prone skin like me then it will be your best friend if you’re like me and if you leave your makeup on overnight and end up with a new spotty friend in the morning well 9-5 will keep those nasty friends away even if you don’t cleanse your face afterwards it’s honestly such a lifesaver! Superdrug’s own brand wipes, B. or Superdrug’s miceller water are also good for removing makeup. I’m also IN LOVE with their Imperialis face moisturiser! It was a lifesaver during the cold winter months in Aberdeen when my face was starting to crack a bit from the cold! Literally after one use it had healed my cracked skin and left my skin feeling baby soft and hydrated!

Since moving home to Perth I’ve discovered an amazing brand called Kate Somerville available from Mecca Cosmetics! Kate’s line is cruelty free, her products are not sold in mainland China where animal testing is required by law. Her line is fully vegan except for one product “Goat Milk Cream”! I use her “Exfolikate Cleanser” as my everyday morning and night cleanser and find it so good! The exfoliant is gentle enough to use daily and it leaves your skin nice and soft and is pretty good at removing makeup although I do always double cleanse before going to bed if I have been wearing makeup to ensure that there is no impurities left on my skin! I am absolutely in love with her “ExfoliKate Glow Moisturiser”! It smells absolutely amazing and really natural, it leaves my skin feeling baby soft, dewy and glowing so it’s name definitely does it justice! I have recently run out though so I have been using up an old Sukin moisturiser which is also pretty good and more budget friendly! Sukin can be found in Coles, Woolworths, Priceline, IGA and The Chemist Warehouse! It smells natural and fruity and does leave my skin feeling nice and soft but I still think Kate’s moisturiser gives my skin a better moisturise and glow! I also find the “EradiKate Acne Treatment” really good for drying up hard and sore spots! I apply it with a cotton bud just make sure you don’t shake the bottle and ensure that you put the cotton bud right to the bottom of the bottle so that you get the two different mixtures on the bud (it should be pink in colour) and then just apply it to wherever you have spots and leave on overnight :)

For toothpaste and mouthwash I used to use the Co-op’s or Superdrug’s own brand! I wasn’t a huge fan of the Lush mouthwash tablets! I now use the brand White and Glow which can be bought from Coles, Woolies or Priceline! Their natural toothpaste even comes with a bamboo toothbrush, so cute! For face spf I use Natio’s 50+ it doesn’t feel tacky and leaves my skin feeling soft and my makeup applies evenly over it! Natio can be found in Priceline or The Chemist Warehouse! We also use Sun Bum SPF body moisturiser spray and lip balm which we purchased from Priceline!

I better stop there as this post has gotten crazy long already but I will happily make another blog post if there’s anything else you’d like me to discuss! I will do blogs on foundation, highlight, blush, eyeshadow and all that other fun stuff! I’ve just realised that I haven’t discussed personal care such as sanitary towels, tampons, deodorant, razors and hair colour so I will make a second part for this blog!

Please let me know in the comments below, or message/comment on my Instagram @happyhooves.93 if there’s anything else you’d like me to cover and I will happily do so! I hope you enjoyed reading this and found it helpful! I have also linked some of the main brands I have discussed below so you can check them out!
